Introduction: Infant colic is a benign disorder characterized by inconsolable crying and irritability in healthy infants. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical improvement of infants with colic, applying a specific treatment protocol using visceral techniques on the liver complex and adjacent structures in patients with infant colic.
Method: 10 babies, duly selected by a medical team, underwent 4 treatments on a weekly basis. The FLACC scale was used to assess the acute pain of the baby at the beginning and end of the study. By means of a daily survey, the frequency and duration of infant colic, the elimination of gases and the frequency of bowel movements were also measured.
Results: An evident improvement of the pain variable was observed when we compared the onset (8.8 ±2.1) with the end (4.4 ±1.65) of the study. The quantity variable also improved (in babies with more than 4 colics per day it decreased from an initial 21.43% to a 0% at the end),in the end, 79.17% had only one. The elimination of gases and frequency of depositions increased (beginning 22.86% vs final 66.67%). There was a decrease in the duration of colic, in which initially lasted one hour (15.71% initial vs. 66.67% final).
Conclusions: Visceral techniques for infant colic treatment seems to be useful. But a larger study with a control group is necessary to confirm these results. - Abstract

- presented at
