Abstract
[_H2_]Study Design[_/H2_]
[_P_]descriptive clinical study[_/P_]
[_H2_]Outline/Problem Definition[_/H2_]
[_P_]Since assembly line work and shift work often go hand in hand in the automotive industry, the aim of this study is to find out whether osteopathy can have an influence on the impaired state of health of patients who fulfill both criteria. [_/P_]
[_H2_]Research Question & Objective[_/H2_]
[_P_]Does osteopathy have an influence on the current state of health of male and female shift workers working in assembly line production in the automotive industry of Baden-Württemberg?

Evaluation of the hypothesis whether osteopathic treatments have an influence on the general state of health of male and female shift workers working in flow production in the automotive industry of Baden-Württemberg.[_/P_]
[_H2_]Hypothesis[_/H2_]
[_P_]Osteopathy has an influence on the general state of health of male and female shift workers working in flow production in the automotive industry of Baden-Württemberg.[_/P_]
[_H2_]Methodology[_/H2_]
[_P_]The standardized health status questionnaire SF-36 according to Bullinger und Kirchberger (1998) is used as measurement instrument in the form of a self-assessment sheet with a one week time frame. The participants were divided into two groups by means of an ad-hoc sampling procedure, which meant that the test persons were attributed to either group 1 or group 2 depending on the order of their registration, i.e. test person 1 was attributed to group 1, test person 2 to group 2, test person 3 to group 1, etc. Group 1 comprised 15 test persons; group 2 included 14 test persons.
[_/P_]
[_H2_]Results[_/H2_]
[_P_]The subscales of the treatment group show an improvement regarding role-limitations due to emotional problems (p=0.038), physical functioning (p=0.012), role limitations due to physical problems (p=0.027), general health perceptions (p=0.000), vitality (p=0.019), social functioning (p=0.003) and mental health (p=0.011). Also changes in the health status improved (p=0.000). The subscale bodily pain (p=0.146) did not improve considerably.[_/P_]
[_H2_]Critical Reflection/Perspectives/Conclusions[_/H2_]
[_P_]Even though the results of the study are statistically not significant due to the small number of participants, a tendency can be recognized that the general state of health of shift and assembly line workers in the automotive industry in Baden-Württemberg has improved.[_/P_]
