Titel: Bewusstseinszustand von Osteopathen während einer kranialen Behandlung.
Hintergrund: Um die subtilen, sehr feinen Informationen des
kranialen Systems analysieren und interpretieren zu können, bedarf es eines
ausgeprägten Wahrnehmungsvermögens des Therapeuten. Es stellt sich die Frage,
in welchem Bewusstseinszustand ein Osteopath am aufnahmefähigsten für diese
Informationen ist, und ob dieser Bewusstseinszustand einem entspannt
meditativem Zustand gleichkommt.
Ziel: Überprüfung des Bewusstseinszustands von Osteopathen während
einer kranialen Behandlung, durch Darstellung der Gehirnwellenaktivität unter
Einsatz eines Neurofeedback-geräts. Mittels nichtparametrischer Tests wird die
Amplitudenveränderung zwischen den einzelnen Behandlungsphasen bei einer
Signifikanz von p<0,05 analysiert.
Methode: Es handelt sich um eine prospektive Beobachtungsstudie,
die primär hypothesenprüfend und als Querschnittstudie angelegt ist. Neun
Osteopathen, die überwiegend kranialosteopathisch arbeiten, behandeln jeweils
drei Patienten. Es wird vermutet, dass ein Zusammenhang zwischen dem Erreichen
des Neutrals durch den Therapeuten und seinem Bewusstseinszustand besteht.
Dieser Zusammenhang wird anhand von EEG-Werten (Zielparameter ist der
7-14Hz-Anteil der Gehirnwellen, welcher dem Alpha- und Theta-Bereich
entspricht) überprüft, die Ergebnisse werden beschrieben und beurteilt.
Ergebnisse: Bei 24 von 27 Messungen (89%) zeichnen sich zumindest
in einem Frequenzband und einem Zeitintervall der Behandlungsphase eine
signifikante Änderung der mittleren bandbezogenen Power ab. Signifikante
Veränderungen treten allerdings am häufigsten im Beta-Frequenzband auf, während
im Alpha- und Theta-Bereich nur marginale Veränderungen zu beobachten sind.
Konklusion: Nach Auswertung der statistischen Ergebnisse wurde eine
große Bandbreite an Inter- und Intraindividualität festgestellt. Ein anderes
Studiendesign und die Verwendung eines EEG-Gerätes mit größerer
Ableitmöglichkeit könnten eindeutigere Studienergebnisse zulassen.

Title: State of consciousness of osteopaths during cranial
treatment.
Background: In order to analyse and interpret the subtle and
delicate characteristics of the cranial system, the therapist must possess
distinct perceptual skills. This raises the question, in which specific state
of consciousness the therapist is most receptive to this information and whether
the specific state of consciousness is equivalent to a relaxed meditative
state.
Objectives: Examination of the states of consciousness of
osteopaths during cranial treatment by displaying brainwave activity with a
neurofeedback device. Nonparametric tests analyse the amplitude spectrum during
the different phases of treatment at a significance of p <0,05.
Methods: A prospective observational study is presented. It is
primarily designed to test various hypotheses in a cross-sectional study. Nine
osteopaths who work predominantly with cranial osteopathy each treat three
patients. It is proposed that there is a correlation between the therapist's
attainment of the neutral and their state of consciousness. This correlation is
validated based on EEG parameters. (Target parameter is 7-14 Hz-share of the
brainwaves.) The resultant findings are discussed and analysed.
Results: 24
out of 27 measurements (89%) show a significant change of the band related
power at least in one frequency band and in one interval of the treatment.
However, significant changes mostly occur in the beta frequency band. The null
hypothesis is to be maintained due to the fact, that hardly any significant
changes can be found in the alpha and theta band during a cranialosteopathic treatment.
Results: 24 out
of 27 measurements (89%) show a significant change of the band related power at
least in one frequency band and in one interval of the treatment. However,
significant changes mostly occur in the beta frequency band, whereas only marginal
changes can be observed in the alpha and theta range.
Conclusion: The evaluation of the statistical
results suggests a wide range of inter- and intraindividuality. A different
study design and the use of an EEG device with a more precise derivation option
could allow clearer and more unambiguous research results.
